The Spotted Bay Bass (Paralabrax maculatofasciatus) is also called Sandbass, Rock Bass, Spotted, Spotty, and even Grumpy! Everyone’s favorite eel grass inhabitant, this all-too-lovable dock lurker can be found in the Gulf of California, California, Mexico, and all the way to Monterey. An interesting fact about this bass is that it’s a hermaphrodite— it can change its gender from female to male!
