King Salmon Over Nautical Charts

The Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) is the largest species of Pacific salmon. The name refers to the Chinookan peoples, who were the indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest. Other names for the species include king salmon, Quinnat salmon, spring salmon, chrome hog, and Tyee salmon. Known as the "king salmon" in Alaska for its large size and flavorful flesh, the Chinook is the state fish of this state and of Oregon.
