Generally seen by most washed up at the high tide mark where it get's passed over by beach combers as just 'seaweed', red and brown algae are some of the most beautiful things growing in the ocean.  Very common in the intertidal and subtidal zones from Northern Baja to Alaska, this bouquet of algae is what one may find in the waters off Año Nuevo Island, Central California.
